Ejecting USB Backup Drives

$

Hello,

I have used ShadowProtect for about 6 years with external USB backup drives.  About 2 years ago a change was made to the software that is preventing me from ejecting the drives prior to removal.  I have found the following command allows me to eject the drives and I want to make sure it is not going to cause any issues with the backup.  :

net stop ShadowProtectSvc

(swap USB drive)

net start ShadowProtectSvc

Is this an issue?

Hi,

We have had Shadowprotect installed on our server and are trying our data out.

I was informed to stop headstart when the job was at the restored state. Once stopped I copied the vhd and hsr files to another directory. started headstart again.

With the copy files I have attached to the VM's and booted with the recovery ISO.

Select Restore wizard then selected Finalize an HSR restore.

selected the boot drive

Forgot to add the new license to v5, and the trial expired. I put in the license and the software went from Expired to Active, but the job still says Expired. I restarted the services, and still no luck. Any ideas on how to get the jobs going again without having to recreate? Any help is appreciated.

Long Incrementals on SSD C:\ drive - TRIM/UNMAP stcvsm Error 15

We continue to see variations on the amount of time it takes to backup the SSD C:\ drive on a Windows Server 2008 R2.  I have analyzed the logs and turned on the Security Logging Details, etc.  I still cannot figure out why some backups take less than 1 minute and others take up to 30-40 minutes.  The incremental data is not large, so I do not think many blocks are changing on the C:\ drive.

The only thing I see that is consistent on the longer backups is the presence of the following event:

Standard BDR Builds or Branded Prebuilt Choices for Minimum Hardware Requirements - ShadowProtect and ImageManager

Hello All,

Our MSP manages multiple clients with environments ranging from 1 DC/SBS server to manage up to and over 40 servers. We are just coming off of another backup solution and moving into the StorageCraft product. Our previous software was a huge resource hog and required our BDR boxes to be build to extremes and so to keep the cost down, we build whiteboxes.

Those whiteboxes are proving less and less cost effective as we are finding hardware compatability/waranty issues and so we are looking to find out what any of you have put into practice at your own client sites.

Continuous Incrementals Consolidate Base Image

$

I have been using continuous incrementals for the last year or so on a volume that results in a 1.3TB base image. I setup image manager to consolidate the monthly backups. This has been working well but the problem is that the last consolidated monthly backup is now about the same size as the original base image. Essentially what I'd like to do is consolidate the year old base image with the last consolidated monthly backup so that the last monthly backup becomes the new base image while retaining the incremental chain.

Server 2012 R2 Additional Paritions

$

Hello,

With Server 2012 R2 having the up to 3 additional system / recovery partitions for a basic install, what is the best practice procedure for backing these up? I've found that 2 of them if you have them running in your conventional backup job they fail with the incremental jobs. If I don't back them up, I'd be concerned about additional difficulties encountered during a bare-metal restore.

Thanks,
David

I have just setup StorageCraft Virtual Edition on a hosted Windows Server 2008 R2 Virtual Machine. The scheduled incremental backups are failing with a 504 error: 01-May-2014 01:00:00 service 504 The source volume is corrupt.  Schedule-triggered (but not manually-triggered) backups will fail until the volume is repaired with CHKDSK.

Hello

Server Protect 4.1.5 10129

Windows SBS 2008. Server protect running on the server backing up to a USB drive.

We have an issue that during back up clients are losing connections to network drives and applications to the server. During this time you cannot even ping the server. the network drops.

There are no events in the logs to suggest a cause. More frustrating is that there appears to be no pattern. Some times it will happen several times during a backup most days during the week and sometimes not happen for some time.

Out of the blue, when I tried to virtualboot the machine.

It takes very long (longer than usual) then pop up the error syaing that driver is not found.

The missing driver is ACPIPIC.

It was working fine last month.  Now several of the server are having similar error.

Any idea?  or should I open a ticket with support?

Shadow Protect upgrade and existing chains

We are looking at bringing all our Shadow Protects from v4.1, Image Managers from 4 and 5, and Oracle Virtual Box  versions, up-to-date.

We have several sites and servers SP backing up to their local staging machines with IM replication to our DR site.

Biggest concern during the process, is in upgrading Shadow Protect Servers. Will we have to start again with all the chains i.e. (re-seed) all our base images or just carry on with our existing continuous incrementals, and IM and Oracle VB will be happy along the way?

I'm trying to restore a StorageCraft Image of a VM running Server 2012 Datacenter to another VM but am getting a BSOD error "driver_portion_must_be_nonpaged (xenpci.sys)". When I run HIR all the drivers look ok, I even tried virtual booting on my workstation (different machine to the Hyper-V server I'm trying to restore too) and get exactly the same error.

Backups seem to be working however I am unable to open the ShadowProtect console to manage my backups. I've tried running the ShadowProtect.exe directly by double clicking it with no success. The shortcut will not respond as well and right click to run as administrator does nothing as well. Is there a service I can restart for this to work or something?

Intelligent FTP - Is there a way to retain less on our cloud server?

I have a client for whom we have shadowprotect installed on his SBS server.  I have a extra computer there that has image manager that is the destination for the Shadowprotect backups.  We also have Intelligent FTP replicating to our server at our location as an extra cloud backup.  I have set the retention on the extra computer for 30 days.  Is there a way to also set the retention level for our cloud server to be less than that?  I still want 30 days on the extra on site computer, but for our cloud server I only want it to store a week or two of backups.
