One of our clients has been receiving this error for every backup, on all 6 volumes, since 5/28/14.  We had a technician work with SP Support, and they discovered the VSS Writers were in a failed state, so they went through the VSS KB article.  This still has not fixed our problem.

Currently, that Tech is out sick, and did not happen to leave a SP Support Ticket # for us to reference, but each log has the following:

STC and SQL reindexing

I wanted to see how others here handle SQL server backups with DB reindexing.

We have an SQL server that runs an 90 GB database which the vendor requires be reindexed daily, the problem is, this reindex prodeces a 17 + GB incremental backup, which then has to be collapsed to daily and transfered offsite.

Needless to say transfering 18+ GB a day is not fun nor productive.

So how do others handle reindexing databases with shadow protect backups?

MSP: License is disactivated

Hello,

I have the following problem:

Shadowprotect ist disactivated on one of our client server (the client has multiple Serves, but the problem occurs just on one server).

In the MSP-Portal, I can read that the License has been disactivated, because the server hasn't "call home".
When I click on "Activate" in Shadowprotect, I get the information that there is no activation for this License-Numer.

License number ist correct (never changed) and the server has full access to the internet (other servers in the same network are without any problems).

Continous backup and defragmentation of disk?

$

Hi,

I've seen recommendations to turn of defrag of disks if running continous backups.

But, with the latest versions of windows automatically defragging disk every day, is it now better to leave it running as the extra data from changes to sectors every day will be less of an impact than having totally fragmented disks in a year or two?

Backups failing error -1223 The operation was canceled by the user

Recently after replacing the backup hard drive and copying all the backup files to the new location, my backups are failing with the following errors.
I can successfully verify the destination and browse to the UNC path.
Have repaired Shadow Protect and rebooted the server with no luck
Checked the registry and DiffGenImage is correct, no duplicate name.
Shadow Protect version 5.1.4.32348
I can create a new backup job to the same destination and it works fine. I'm wondering why it's sending an empty password and not opening the file?

Bridge Mode in vCloud Director

I am using ShadowProtect Server in a virtual environment and wanting to use Virtual Boot with VirtualBox

It all works great until I turn on bridged mode on the network adapter in virtual box- the virtualbox machine freezes, the local machine loses access to the internet.

As soon as I switch back to NAT- all is OK.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I have four vm guests that I am backing up to a nas device using contineous incredmental.  The nas device then copies the data to an offsite nas device.  What I want to do is have each guest start a new full backup on different Fridays.  this would allow the full to be copied over the weekend to the offsite nas device.  From what I have read I will not ne able to creat this schedule.  Is there a way?

Thank You,

Joe

Best way to update several servers at once.

Hello out there,

We have been running StorageCraft ShadowProtect for a few months now. And I wanted to find out, what's the best way to update several servers on the same subnet, or even on different subnets (using MSP licenses here).

We only have about 200 servers and 30 workstations installed right now, on about 30 customers.

But it takes ALOT of time to have to update all of those clients to the newest version.

chkdsk of mounted image and server 2012: Errors detected in the uppercase file

$

Hi,

I have been looking at using ImageReady to check our backup images are good on our remote backup repository.

This is a server 2012 machine.
When I run chkdsk on this machine all images from machines prior to server 2012 give the error:  "Errors detected in the uppercase file".

If I run the test from a server 2008 r2 machine the images check out fine, however that option of using an older version of windows to run these checks isn't available - at the remote site there is only server 2012 installed.

Best Practice SBS 2011 w/Hyper-V & 1 VM

Hi All,

I did some searches of the forum for best practices relating to Hyper-V hosts and guests and did not find my scenario addressed completely.

I have a potential customer that would like to migrate from Backup Exec System Recovery Server to Shadow Protect but I need to ensure that their scenario can be accomodated reliably.

They have: SBS 2011

 - Win2K8R2 (Host OS) running Hyper-V - C: partition

- Not running MS Exchange Server or Sharepoint

 - Shared Files - E: partition

Dealing witrh orphans

... at least, I _think_ this is an orphan situation.

I have a couple of monstrous -cd.spi files that are actually slightly bigger thant the root spf.  If I run image qp on the chain from the newest spi in the folder, one of them is in the chain and the other not.   If I run qp from the one that isn't in the chain, it still successfully finds the spf.  Sort of a "Y" effect, except that one leg is a lot longer than the other.  And, interestingly, a "v" check on the suspect one seems to just sit there and never complete until on control-C it...
