I just migrated my office to Exchange 2013 that is running on a VM under Hyper-V. This machine has two volumes, C: and E:. When the volumes were created, there were also several small other partitions created so I have a total of 6 partitions, 4 on C: and 2 on E:. On each drive there is a volume marked unknown that is the MS Reserved partition. When SP runs on the C: drive, all is good and it backs this up to unknown_VOL_0.spf.

Is a new backup chain required after a Exchange 2010 database offline defrag?
All,
Microsoft recomends to take a full backup of the database after performing an offline defragmentation.
Does this means that we need to start a new backup chain with ShadowProtect ?

Server Becomes Unresponsive During Backups
We are using StorageCraft Shadowprotect 5.0.0.22464 on an SBS 2011 server. We have backups occurring every hour on the hour. About 3 or 4 times a day, we have an issue where the server becomes non responsive. We cannot login to it and nobody can access it on the network. After about 5-10 minutes, the server comes back alive on its own as if nothing ever happened. We've attributed this to the shadowprotect backups because the server lockups ALWAYS occur on the hour and last as long as the backup.
The request is not supported -50
Hi all,
Have an interesting one here. Shadow Protect has been running for months with no issue.
However we are suddenly seeing errors in the backup history.
It will lodge an error stating - "-50 The request is not supported"
The next backup will complete. The next ten backups will complete and then the next backup will fail with the above error and then the next backup job will complete.
My question, what exactly does the eror mean?
Which products to use on Hyper-V servers for host and VM's
I've used ShadowProtect several times on separate physical servers but not in a virtual environment before.
I am in the process of building a 2012R2 host with 7 VM's running under Hyper-V. What I want to be able to do is attach removable storage to the physical host machine, backup the host and all the VM's and then the following day swap the storage and repeat the process.

Hello,
MD5 Verification for redundant backup copies - Script attached for your enjoyment.
I have multiple arrays setup to store backups for redundancy. I have a simple robocopy script that copies all of our backups (about 16 terrabytes) from the primary backup storage device to two other arrays. I have Imagemanager running on the primary storage device, but wanted a way to verify backups on the replicated backups without having to configure Imagemanager for each and every folder on the other devices. (We're and MSP and have LOTS of folders and changes occur regularly - so mananging that in 3 places seemed pretty crazy to me.)
failed VSS writers
Hoping someone can assist?
We have a SBS 2011 Std server with SP version 5 which has strated having VSS writer problems. Everytime a scheduled SP backup runs either full or incremental the event log is peppered with VSS errors.
I have followed the SP article 32 "Troubleshooting VSS" which does not make any difference aprat from the fact that at the end of the article a restart is required. Its the restart that fixes the issue but just for one or sometimes two backups then it all falls over again after which vssadmin list writers shows multiple failed writers.
Quick Mount error
I have a server that allows me to successfully mount an image on a remote repository, but comes up with an error when I try to quick mount.
The error is "An error occurred accessing the specified image file" follwed by the image file details.
Then "Error code: -2 (0xFFFFFFFE)
Error description: (Blank)
This is not a biggie, but I'd like to know why this is happening and if it should be a cause for worry.

Will splitting a base image into a spanned set keep my incremental chain?
I have an incremental backup chain being managed by Image Manager.
We have a rather large (few TB) base image that in hindsight should have been split into multiple images for easier management.
I'm wondering if I split this large base image into a spanned set using the image conversion tool, will I be able to replace my base image with the spanned set, WITHOUT affecting my incremental chain at all?
Or am I better off starting a completely new backup job with spanning from the start?
Cheers
Is there a way have ShadowProtect agents automatically connect on the console?
Is there a setting automatically connects the ShadowProtect agents in the console when I open the ShadowProtect console? We recently took over some ShadowProtect servers and I saw that when opening ShadowProtect, it connected all agents automatically, but cannot figure out how that was configured to do so.
Restoring from VM-Vault
We have ImageManager set to replicate backups to VM-Vault and I would like to check that the chain is intact and the files are all viable by running a test restore. I have added the FTP to Network Locations in Computer so I can browse from the Explore Backup option in SP to select one of the continuous incrementals. When I do this it just seems to hang, does SP try to download the baseline and all required incrementals before the backup can be browsed? If so is there any better way to verify that the cloud hosted files are complete and correct or do we just assume they are? i.e.
