Hello all.  I have been a ShadowProtect user for about 3 years, and recently our small business has started to tighten its network security.  Previously ShadowProtect was set up to run as a Domain Administrator account.  This account was used to both manage remote computers in the ShadowProtect management program, and also to run the actual backup jobs.

I'd like to create a user who has permissions to only manage remote ShadowProtect installations.  I read https://www.storagecraft.com/support/kb/article/18 but this only worked for users with admin permissions.

Hello,

Currently cleaning up after an encryption virus got through. While restoring files I get told "Source Path Too Long". I've tried all sorts of tricks, but I can't restore the file. Also, in the mounted drive, the file does not appear. There is not enough space for me to do a volume restore first.

 I am running Shadow protect ver 5.2.0.36537 on a dl380g5 with server 2003. My back ups are failing. 1) I am getting a "debugger" error "an unhandled win32 exception occured in shadowprotectsvc.exe. I have tried stopping ane restarting the shadow protect service and continue to get the error. Also getting an error that the volume is already being backed up by another job, yet there is no other bu job running. also getting vss errors.

Any Ideas???

Hi,

We have ShadowProtect installed on an HyperV server with some virtual machines running, including a Domain Controller VM.

This particular virtual machine reports the error ActiveDirectory_DomainService 2089: "This directory partition has not been backed up since at lest the following number of days..."

The domain controller is a Windows SBS 2011.

The ShadowProtect backup is working properly (weekly full backup and daily incremental). I often do test restores.

Could you help me solve this alert?

I have a public share on a NAS that I'm trying to make a destintion object for. The permissions on the object are totally open, anonymous access is enabled and everything. ShadowProtect 5.2 is unable to see it. The system is insisting that I type in credentals. and then it cannot find the name. So I decided to mapa drive to the shared folder, but then Shadow protect is unable to see the share latter. When I try to scan the whole network to look for the FQDN of the NAS, Shadowcraft locks up and stays in (Not Responding).

ANy thoughts out there as to what the problem could be?

Hi,

im looking forward to buy Shadowprotect to backup our new storage to an iscsi target. Also i will backup to tape.

Is it possible to run Backup Exec 2015 and Shadowprotect on the same maschine? Or is there a problem? (different Backuptimes)

I will run Shadowprotect from 8:00 to 16:00 and Backup Exec at 17:00.

Hello!
We have a terminal server, where each user have one process started each of mountnotify.exe.

This is started by the run key in regedit.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Is this necessary for the backup operation of Shadowprotect, or can I remove it from the run key?

over the last 3 days shadowprotect fails with error: cannot take snapshot. Error: Access denied.

I also get sbrun.exe exited with unknown error -1073741502(0xC0000142)

nothing has changed on the server in quite a while. Not sure why this is happening. any ideas would be helpful.

I am running version 5.2.3.37285 on Windows server 2008 Standard FE

Hi everyone. Does anyone know if ShadowProtect has ways to deal with incremental backup if one of the backup in the chain is corrupted?

Example. Full Backup -> Incremental A, -> Incremental B -> Incremental C -> Incremental D -> Incremental E -> Incremental F..etc

Hi. 

We have been running SPX and suddenly it stopped working after a reboot. 

Can't repair or Uninstall as it says it can't get to the Windows Installer Service. 

Where can I find a guide to a manual uninstall please?

Hello All,

I have a few questions in regards to the "Self Healing IncrementalBackup" option that you can enable under Advanced when building a backup job.

1. How does this work specifically?? As I am confused as how it detects a problem and "heals" itself so to speak?

2. If this option is enable how do I know its working?

Hi,

I have 3 virtual servers running on Hyper-V, using SP 5.2.3.37285.

Recently, sometimes the backup job fails due to the error code 509: Cannot get access to destination object, either Full backup or Incremental backup.

It happens about once per week.

This is not a serious issuse but I really want to fix it.

I'm trying to figure out the source of multiple security audit failures on a server I'm using as a backup destination. Here's my scenario:

Production Server: SQL
Backup Destination : BDR
Production server is joined ot my domain. BDR is on a workgroup.

BDR shows audit failures at the time of backup, yet the backup itself is successful. The failure is for the computer acount for SQL server. I've copied on of the logs down below.

Exchange 2016 besy practices suggest a seperate volume for each exchange Database and a separate volume for each log both on ReFS Volumes. 
1) Is this Shadowprotects best practice for exchange 2016?

2) Does it support ReFS ok ?

I am reconfiguring the RAID array on a server from RAID1 to RAID 5. Will the current backup series be affected by this change? Will Shadow Protect see changed sectors on the hosted virtual machines or will it just continue with incrementals as normal?

Hi,

Using a Netgear ReadyDATA 516 as a target for Shadowprotect (netgear label it ReadyRECOVER). This 516 is then replicating to 5200 off-site.  Which all works great.  Problem comes when tryign to restore a VM using the recovery enviroment, I can see its talked about allot with the slow rate of transfer, currently a 1TB server VM restore (Hyper-V) is going to take 5 days! I could rebuild it from fresh and copy the data back quicker

SMB transfer from the ReadyDATA are constant 100Mb/s and i would assume quicker if I attached the 5200 via 10Gbe.

Dear Guru's,

I wonder if anyone can help me?

I have a large (5 TB or so) disk that I want to back up, but I can only get my hands on 3TB USB attached disks. Is it possible to split the backup across multiple disks?
